I will give it points for the goofy premise and sticking to it. But yeah, it seems like something that would have worked in a shorter format. I don't know if the source material does things the same way, but it felt like the anime crew figured out that there wasn't enough material to cover the time allotted, and pulled from later chapters to pad it out with characters that the main characters will meet later. As it is, it's weird segments about other characters who have no bearing on the main story that we simply don't see again.

I don't think i can claim it was a good show, but in the end i just couldn't hate it. Primarily because the endless parade of references were all ones that i got; the show doesn't really justify itself on it's own terms, but a cat quoting Predator at me? it's going to get a laugh.
The only good scene i can recall is from maybe episode 8, where the characters had split off in to 3 groups for separate adventures and upon regrouping express disbelief at the stupidity of their own reality.
Also I really hated the male MC, his endless shrieking apologies through all the "combat" bits just grated on me.

If I had a nickel for every legendary director that disappointed me with anime this year but made up for it in Ghost of Yotei, I'd have two nickels.
How the hell did that happen twice?

It's mostly a straight adaptation of the manga, including those segments about characters unrelated to the main story. Those segments are bonus chapters in the manga but they're lengthy (20+ pages) so the anime had no choice but to adapt them. I guess it's a story that doesn't really work too well in anime format unless they change a lot of it.

This sure was one of those series.....I'm not at all a cat person, and this sure was a case of great (utterly silly) premise but flawed execution, yet I probably enjoyed this show more than I should have. And for sure I will remember it for years to come. In that regard I'd take a show like this over so many unoriginal, maybe better executed but in the end forgettable series. I mean, this series even had Freddie Mercury for no reason at all!

I'd rather say it was a serious matter of life and cat!
