Why would they be angry... how fanboyish is that? I have no idea if this will be a series, a one-shot affair, or even just a few seconds of animation in a few commericals, but... seeing Disney characters and anime-style renditions of Square characters together on the same screen... I think that will be pretty nifty, sorry, especially if they have Stitch.

if it is a movie it wil probably be a direct-to-video release like all the other Disney sequals.

yeah but you know how the hardcore fans are. i personally have no problem with it as i liked the game, but the idea of an anime with disney characters isn't going to appeal to some.

I think it'll be interesting. The game seemed heavily Disney to me (I don't know how far I got, halfway? maybe?). I'd like to see more of squaresoft. I enjoyed the game though.

Anyway an anime/movie will probably be targeted toward a younger audience something like Digimon or Pokemon. It could still entertain though.

Feh, those so called "hardcore" fans can go suck eggs for all I care. Good animation is good animation no matter where it comes from, it's not like Japan has a monopoly on the stuff, they still release a lot of crap. But this isn't being made for anime fans, it's being made for fans of the game.

There is no need for anyone to be angry. Disney has been making animated films and cartoon longer than just about anyone else in the world. If there is one thing Disney knows, it's Animation. If you notice the charachter Designs in Kingdom Hearts, Sora and the rest of the Square made charachters are drawn to look like disney charachters. Compare Sora's Face to Aladden's, they both have similare eyes and facial sculptures just like all of Disneys animated films.

Kingdom hearts isn't trying to capture the look of an anime, it's trying to capture the look of a Disney film. And it did so very well. Most of the charachters in the game are Disney Charachters anyways so I doubt they'll have much trouble. And I really doubt Disney is trying to make an Anime.

here's what I say

I say there is a difference between Walt Disney and The Walt Disney Company.

I don't hate Walt Disney. I hate The Walt Disney Company, for different reason.

I honestly don't think there is such a thing as an anime look...its just the style of the artist...one can mimick and artist's style, but there is no defined style to anime. I consider anime to be animation that comes out of Japan, not a style. Afterall, I've seen some American animation that some would consider to be "anime" and I've seen some Japanese animation that some would say looks "Disney" I don't think there is a Disney look either...many of their movies are different with different animators and artists adding their own style.

If this is the closest thing we ever get to a Disney/anime crossover series (and leave your fanboy rip-off conspiracy theories at the door; I'm not interested), then I have the perfect theme song: the jazzy Japanese-language version of "When You Wish Upon A Star" sung by Michie Tomizawa as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, from the second Sailor Moon Christmas album.

My reaction to this is mixed. As has been noted, Disney can do some really cool things with animation. The problem? The amount of effort they invest in direct-to-video productions is abysmal, as is evidenced by such films as the Beauty and the Beast sequals, Tarzan and Jane, and a handful of other unnecessary films that really butchered the sense of fun and adventure so prevalent in their classic movies.

Kingdom Hearts was great because instead of "reinventing" their old films, it made a genuine effort to keep each of its Disney components centered around great gameplay. Had this instead been presented as a straight storyline type RPG like the traditional Final Fantasy games, it would have been intolerable. What made Kingdom Hearts so memorable were the excellent gameplay and story concepts brought over from Square (now Square-Enix). Frankly, short of a very suprising level of time, money, and talent being invested in this animation, it will continue to aid the unfortunate trend of Disney "projects" ending up in the toilet.

The last good (purely) Disney film was Lilo and Stitch. Before that was Tarzan. And before that, sadly, were Nightmare before Christmas and Mulan. Despite about three or four movies a year for the past several years, only five or six have really been worth watching over the last decade, and even then many of those were outclassed by both rival and foreign animation companies such as Ghibli, Gainax, Production I.G., etc.

In order for a KH animation to be a success, it will need to make a genuine effort to pass itself off as not being too heavily focused on its Disney component, important as that is. The only way theis animation will be able to compete with more recognized anime and even Disney animation will be to incorporate the action and fantasy story elements of the game first and foremost, and the disney themes second.

Oh, and keep Haley Joe Osment. That's an order, dammit.

Really? I was thinking something along the lines of the Gene Simmons solo rendition. Anime smile

You must forgive me, I'm just speaking in terms of how other people speak. I've read numerous times that Disney films look like anime rip-offs so I'm just stating All I've read and seen. And while you are correct about Anime not having a default "look", you can always tell when an Anime is an anime and when an American Cartoon is Domestic. Take those Johnny Chase commercials, even though they're for an American Cell Phone Product/service, My mom reffers to it as "that Anime phone".
