Good performance for both One Piece and Bleach. Their sales are higher compared to the previous volumes despite having one day less to sell in the considered time period.

Attack on Titan's first volume's sales increased compared to last week, very impressive. Overall, that's 617.068 extra copies sold this week alone. We've still got 5 months and a half (around 22-23 weeks) till mid-november when the Oricon tracking for 2013 ends so who knows how high it will go : it's unlikely imo but if it holds really well it could be coming for One Piece's wig (will also depend how many new volumes come out for each series by then). Right now it's at 20 000 000 in print in total so around 2 million sales per volume currently expected by the editor, seems like a given to me but we'll see.

One Piece releases 4 volumes per year while Shingeki is only 3 volumes per year, so One Piece still has 2 volumes incoming for 2013 while Shingeki only has 1 more for this year.

One Piece, atm - has about 10 million sold for 2013 while Shingeki has about 6 million.

I estimate One Piece still have At Least 7 million copies for 2013. For Shingeki to make it to 17 million copies, it will have to keep on averaging 40k to 50k per volume for the next 24 weeks. Pretty much make all of its volumes into 2 million copy sellers (including the latest volumes).

Very tall order, so I'm going to wait until... maybe after its anime finished airing before deciding if it can even challenge One Piece for first place.

But, I will bet now that it will take 2nd place easily.

^ Just looked at the past schedule and they waited 4 months between 68 and 69 though so who knows. And even with only 3 months that puts us with volume 71 coming out in september and volume 72 coming out in december meaning it won't be included in Oricon's 2013 total.

I agree with you otherwise. Second place is secured and it should be quite confortable too. But I'm far more interested in the race for first place, it's been years since we've had one (since the Death Note or Nana years perhaps ?). ^^

^ Well, of course - if just one more One Piece volume left for the 2013 count, Shingeki's chance to claim first place goes up, cause that means Shingeki just has to try to get up to 14 million at least.

That means it just has to average at least 30k copies per volume for remainder of the 2013 count. Which it just may do.

But still... it wouldn't feel like much of a victory if your opponent is handicapped, lol.

Attack on Titan is becoming huge but i don't see it beating "One Piece" in number 1. here my top 5 when November comes:

1. One Piece
2. Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titans)
3. Koroko no Basket (Koroko's Basketball)
4. Magi
5. Naruto.

Its just a guess though...

If both series end up with 3 new volumes included in the 2013 count that's pretty fair, no ? :p

Regardless, it promises exciting times. ^^

A race for first place would be interesting however facing one piece will be difficult for Attack on Titan.

One piece has 2.5 volumes out until now and will probably have 1-2 more volumes before November. That is 3.5-4.5 volumes. Volume 68 is the 0.5 volume which sold 650,000 this first half and will probably sell even more by the end of the year. The other 3-4 volumes will sell about 3.5 mil each like they always do. That is 11.5-15 mil just from volume 68-71/72. Looking at previous years where one piece releases 4 volumes 40-45% of the total sales come from volumes that are not released in the current year. In this case its volumes 1-67.

Attack on Titan is doing very well but it only releases 3 volumes a year which cannot compete with the 3.5 mil/volume of one piece. The only way it can win in sales is that Attack on Titan volume 1-8 beat One piece volume 1-67.

Its going to be difficult for Attack on Titan(11 volumes) to take on One Piece(71-72 volumes). To make it worst Attack on Titan is monthly and only 3 years old and One Piece is weekly and 15 years old.

If Attack on Titan is able to challenge One Piece I will be extremely happy. Both are amazing lets see what happens.

True, true. Very Happy

The conclusion of Shingeki's first arc should give a pretty good indication of how things will go. If after it, it stays at or above 50k average, Shingeki has a chance.

On the 1st half of 2013 "One Piece" sold a total of 7,944,680 Volumes.
which comprising of:

Volume 69 - 2,946,369 copies
Volume 68 - 633,121 copies
Volume 1-67 - 4,365,190 copies

Now "One Piece" released volume 70 which on its 1st week (June 2-8) sold a total of 2,020,490 copies. while volume 69 sold 27,170 copies during May 26 - June 01 & another 24, 351 copies during the span of June 2-8

So we can already assume that "One Piece" had sold more than 10 million copies as of today.

Lets just assume that volume 1-69 will sell 4.5 million copies until November & Volume 70 will sell 1 million more. If only 1 more volume of "One Piece" will be released during that time, It will still range to 18.5 million to 19 million till the end of the year.

"Attack on Titan" can only surpass "One Piece" in number 1 if it can sell a total of 2 million per volume till the end of the year. And if "One Piece" released more than 1 volume, then there's no chance at all...

One Piece's mangaka hasn't been feeling well lately, so we should be more careful-respectful when discussing about Titans challenging One Piece in sales.

One Piece already took a couple of weeks off and another week again, and it's said that he'll be working slowly cause he hasn't fully recovered.

If One Piece only releases 3 volumes this year, it will be because of the mangaka's health, so yeah if Titans passes One Piece this year because of one less One Piece volume - it will be a hollow victory.

Most probably One Piece will come first like always doesn't matter how many volumes it releases it has a big advantage against Attack on Titan. Actually all series in the top 10 have an advantage against Attack on Titan. Most of us want to see a challenge this year but even if Attack on Titan gets second place its a big achievement for a monthly series.
