Of the movies on the list, I've seen the Miyazaki film. And, while I thought it was ok, it certainly was no "Howl's Moving Castle" and not in my Top 5 Ghibli list. However, the relationship between the main male and female characters (Jiro & Naoko) reminded me too much of a book I had to read in my Spanish classes called "El Otoño" (Autumn), a book which I thought was very creepy on a couple levels.
spoiler[As in the book, the main female character is diagnosed with TB and both male characters believe that, even in this condition, the woman is very attractive.] I did think it was nifty that the movie credits stated that Hideaki Anno voiced Jiro. |

Good for Miyazaki-san. I certainly hope this film does a lot of good for him. He's so under appreciated in foreign countries, especially ones like the United States that have TONS of animation companies. They seem to get swept under the rug for a Pixar or Dreamworks film. They have many more years ahead of them to get the rewards. As for Miyazaki-san this is his last film, and his last chance to gain international appeal. And I certainly hope that "The Wind Rises" does that for him like "Spirited Away" did over ten years ago.
