Splatoon Game's 'Shocking Announcement' is Collaborative Gear

The official website for Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine revealed on Saturday that the magazine is collaborating with the Splatoon 2 Switch game. Following last year's "Emperor Gear" collaboration with the magazine, this new collaboration will be for "Spy Gear." Coro Coro Comics will reveal how to get the gear in the magazine's July issue on June 15.

The July issue will also start a new arc for Sankichi Hinodeya's Splatoon manga adaptation of the first game, and will feature a bonus comic book bundled with the issue.

The June issue of Coro Coro Comics had teased last month that its website would have "news that will shock the world" about the franchise on Saturday.

Nintendo released the first Splatoon game for the Wii U in May 2015. Splatoon 2 shipped for Nintendo Switch in July 2017. The games center on "Inklings," who are beings who can transform between human and squid form. The game pits players in a fight for territory as two teams fight to cover their battlefield with their respective paint colors.

Viz Media is releasing Hinodeya's manga in English.
