Trivia:

World Events Productions picked up the rights to Beast KingGolion by accident. While on a business trip in Tokyo, WEP president Ted Koplar saw a rerun of Future Robot Daltanious on TV. Upon returning to his office in St. Louis, he contacted Toei Animation to purchase the licensing rights to "that lion robot show". Due to the language barrier, Toei officials misinterpreted Koplar's request as Golion, which was one of the studio's most recent releases.

Voltron was originally planned to be a trilogy that consisted of Lion Team Voltron (Beast King Golion), Vehicle Team Voltron (Armored Fleet Dairugger XV), and Gladiator Voltron (Lightspeed Electron Albegas). Due to the immense popularity of the Lion Team series and the lukewarm reception of the Vehicle Team series, plans to broadcast the Gladiator Team series were scrapped, despite Matchbox having released the toys.
