Atelier Meruru PS3 RPG's Age Rating Changed to 12+

posted on by Egan Loo
Game itself is unchanged even as Gust updates packaging to show B rating

The game developer Gust announced on Friday that Japan's Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) has changed the age rating of Gust's Meruru no AtoriE: Ārando no Renkinjutsushi 3 (Atelier Meruru: The Alchemist of Arland 3) role-playing game to B. CERO's B rating is for ages 12 or higher. The contents description icon that accompanies the game's rating will now say that the rating is for "sexual" content.

Gust emphasized that while some of the packaging and other printed materials have been updated to reflect the new rating, the contents of the PlayStation 3 game itself has not changed.

Gust acknowledge that the initial A rating (for All Ages) was due to the incomplete documentation that it submitted to CERO. CERO had retracted its initial A rating for the game until Gust could submit new documentation for it to reevaluate the rating. Until the rating was updated, Gust had to put further shipments of the game on hold, even though the game already went on sale on July 23.

Meruru no AtoriE: Ārando no Renkinjutsushi 3 serves as the final part of the Atelier role-playing games' Arland trilogy.
