Maaya Sakamoto, Fans Give 1.9 Million Yen to Quake Charity

Voice actress/singer raise money for Ashinaga education fund in quake-hit areas

The official website of voice actress and singer Maaya Sakamoto announced on Friday that her charity goods have raised 1,933,000 yen (about US$23,300) for Ashinaga, an organization that supports children's education. The donations are going specifically to Ashinaga's fund for children in the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster.

Sakamoto's Live 2011 "in the silence" charity postcards raised 836,500 yen (US$10,090) alone. IDS! Event 2012 "winter songs" charity postcards brought in another 337,000 yen (US$4,070), and charity goods sold on Sakamoto's web shop, including downloadable charity wallpaper, raised 759,500 yen (US$9,170) as of February.
