Live-Action Space Brothers' MSG Seasoning TV Ad Posted

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Film based on Chūya Koyama's Uchū Kyōdai manga to open on May 5

The Ajinomoto corporation began streaming a 30-second television commercial for its signature monosodium glutamate (MSG) seasoning product that features the live-action Uchū Kyōdai (Space Brothers) film's title characters. The brothers Mutta and Hibito eat tamago kake gohan (a Japanese breakfast dish composed of rice and a raw egg) seasoned with Ajinomoto MSG in the video.

The film will be an adaptation of Chūya Koyama's original Uchū Kyōdai manga, starring Shun Oguri (Hana-Kimi, Hana Yori Dango [2005], Fullmetal Alchemist movie [2005]) and Masaki Okada (Hana-Kimi, BokuKimi, Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto) star as the title characters. The film's official website is currently streaming a teaser and a trailer that feature the British rock band Coldplay's theme song "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall."

The story of the film follows two brothers, Mutta (Oguri) and Hibito (Okada), who made a vow as kids to travel to space. The younger brother Hibito did become an astronaut, but not Mutta. However, Mutta's life changes one fateful day.

The film will open in Japan on May 5. Koyama's Uchū Kyōdai manga is also receiving a television anime adaptation from A-1 Pictures that began airing on April 1.
