Life-Size Gundam Statue's Tilt-Shift Video Posted

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Tokyo's Gundam entertainment center opened next to statue this month

Self-described "Gundam Videographer" darwinfish105 posted a tilt-shift video of the 1/1-scale Gundam statue that returned to Tokyo's Odaiba island on April 19. Tilt-shift photography involves the rotation and parallel movement of a camera's lens relative to the image plane to create a scene with a specific focus, which is the Gundam statue in the 214-second video.

The statue was rebuilt at Diver City Tokyo, a complex built on the island by Mitsui Fudosan and Fuji TV. April 19 was also the grand opening of the Gundam Front Tokyo entertainment complex inside Diver City Tokyo. The life-size statue first stood at Odaiba in July of 2009 and attracted 4.15 million visitors before it closed the following month.

The statue rose again in Shizuoka — the self-described "model capital of the world" and the home of Bandai's plastic model factories — from July of 2010 to March 2011. The statue did return to Tokyo in August — in disassembled parts — as a charity drive after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster.

The same videographer has posted several other videos chronicling the reconstruction and unveiling of the Gundam since construction began.
