posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Actress Umika Kawashima to also star in 1st male role; YUZU, Hyadain to perform theme song

Voice actress Aya Hirano (Fairy Tail, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Death Note) will play an original character named Retsu in the upcoming Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge film. Hirano previously played the Hunter examiner Menchi in the ongoing television anime series.

Additionally, Umika Kawashima (Star Driver, live-action Kaibutsu-kun) will play the character Pyro, who close friend of Kurapika. This will mark the first time Kawashima will be voicing a male character.

The Japanese music duo YUZU will perform the theme song "Reason" for the film. The duo are working with Hyadain (Kuroko's Basketball, Toriko, Bodacious Space Pirates) for the song. It has been nearly 10 years since YUZU last sang a theme song for an anime, when they performed the theme song for the 2003 Doraemon: Nobita and the Strange Wind Rider film. The same song will also be used as the ending theme song for the ongoing television anime series starting in December.

The film will center around the character Kurapika, who became a hunter to seek revenge on the Phantom Troupe for the massacre of his clan. The film will feature the new character Omokage, the person with the No. 4 spider tattoo. The film is based on an unpublished story manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi wrote around 10 years ago.

The film, the first in the Hunter X Hunter franchise, will open in theaters in Japan on January 12, 2013. Theaters will begin selling tickets on November 3, and while supplies last, tickets will come with 50,000 original clear file folders in three styles.

Togashi's original manga has 60 million copies in circulation, and it already inspired two television series.
