Ministry seeks to present a friendlier face to its citizens

Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications introduced two new moe mascots for its official ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Twitter feed, @MIC_ICT, on February 10. As yet they are nameless. The ministry explained that it made the change to "make a friendlier Twitter."

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is responsible for overseeing Japan's internal administration, electronic communication, postal system, and environmental issues. It has a reputation for stodginess, so this about-face took many Japanese off guard. The announcement was retweeted over 900 times in one day.
