Special A's Artist Illustrates New Edition of Anne of Green Gables

posted on by Eric Stimson

Maki Minami, the manga artist behind Special A and Voice Over! Seiyu Academy, has illustrated a new edition of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables which went on sale over the weekend. It is a new translation of the 1908 Canadian novel by Shōichirō Kawai published by Kadokawa Tsubasa Bunko. It contains a total of 54 of Minami's illustrations.

Anne of Green Gables is a perennially popular children's story in Japan, where it is known as Akage-no Anne ("Red-Haired Anne"). It chronicles the adventures of Anne Shirley, a headstrong, independent-minded orphan girl adopted into a farmhouse on pastoral Prince Edward Island. It is a regular fixture of school curricula and has been adapted into an anime in 1979 by Isao Takahata. Japanese tourists are frequent visitors to Anne of Green Gables-related attractions on Prince Edward Island.
