March comes in like a lion Comes Face to Face with Honey & Clover in Shaft Ad

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The animation studio SHAFT returned to the works of manga creator Chica Umino to create a crossover ad featuring characters from both Honey and Clover and March comes in like a lion. The ad commemorates the release of March comes in like a lion's 14th manga volume.

The ad's crossover theme matches a tote bag bundled with March comes in like a lion #14. The ad shows character Hinata Kawamoto see two girls carrying rabbit-print tote bags. The girls are none other than Hagumi Hanamoto and Ayumi Yamada from Honey and Clover. Hinata immediately runs home and then to the bookstore to buy a copy of March comes in like a lion #14 to receive her complimentary tote.

In a second ad, March comes in like a lion protagonist Rei Kiriyama is coaching the team in shogi at Fujiwara Design.

Both ads feature returning cast members. Kana Hanazawa returns as Hinata in the first ad and Tomokazu Sugita narrates the second ad as Tatsuyuki Misumi.

Besides the cute rabbit totes, customers will also receive art by Chica Umino at participating bookstores while supplies last.

Umino started the March comes in like a lion series in Young Animal in 2007, and Hakusensha shipped the 14th compiled volume on December 21. The series has won several awards including the Manga Taisho award and Kodansha Manga award in 2011. The manga also won the 18th Tezuka Osamu Prizes' Top Award in March 2014.

The series inspired two anime seasons and two live-action films. Umino's earlier Honey and Clover manga inspired two anime series, a live-action movie, and a television drama.
