Spirited Away Eligible for Oscar

Spirited Away among 17 films eligible for the Best Animated Feature Film Award

17 Animated films have been deemd eligible to win the Academy Award for best Animated Feature Film, of these 17 films, a maximum of 5 can be nominated for the award. Nominations will be announced on February 11th, 2003 while the awards will be announced and presented on March 23rd.

In other news (source: Anime News Service), today's Hollywood Reporter has an FYC (For your consideration) ad for Spirited Away that requests the Academy consider the film for Best Director(Hayao Miyazaki), Best Original Score(Joe Hisaishi), and Best Screen Play(Hayao Miyazaki and others). These are global categories not limited to animation in any way.

The films eligible for the Animated Feature Film award are:
