Anime Top Searches

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Lycos, Google and Yahoo! have released their top searches for 2005

While anime related terms did not manage to make any of the top lists on the 2005 Year-End Google Zeitgeist (top 10 list) or Yahoo's 2005 Top Searches (top 10), they did manage, once again, to appear on Lycos's Web's Most Wanted 2005.

On the Lycos list for the top 100 overall searches: (number in parenthesis is last year's rank)
1. Paris Hilton (2)
2. Pamela Anderson (8)
3. Britney Spears (4)
4. Poker (10)
5. Dragon Ball (13)
8. Pokémon (33)
34. Inuyasha (55)
38. Final Fantasy (25)
41. Sailor Moon (56)
42. Naruto (-)
68. Yu-Gi-Oh! (45)

Animation, anime in particular, also dominated Lycos's list of the most searched for non-primetime TV shows:
1. Dragon Ball
2. Pokémon
3. Inuyasha
4. Sailor Moon
5. Naruto
6. Yu-Gi-Oh!
7. Gundam
8. SpongeBob SquarePants
9. Digimon
10. Rurouni Kenshin

Google however has a list of the top 15 searches of 2005 in Japan, no anime managed to make the top 15, but the list was dominated by idols, singers and actresses, some of whom have acted as anime voice actresses or performed anime theme songs:

4. Yuko Ogura
9. Aya Ueto
10. Ayumi Hamasaki
