Japanese Box Office, January 26–27

Negative Happy Chain Saw Edge at #17, Always 2 at #18, Bleach at #19


Once again, there were no anime/manga films in the top ten list at Japanese box office during the January 26–27 weekend, but Takuji Kitamura's Negative Happy Chain Saw Edge (pictured right) returned at #17 with the equivalent of US$65,363 in earnings (Box Office Mojo). That gives this adaptation of a light novel by Tatsuhiko Takimoto (Welcome to the N.H.K.) a gross-to-date of US$300,942, even after falling three spots in its second weekend.

Always Zoku San-chōme no Yūhi (Always: Sunset on Third Street 2) dropped from #13 to #18 in its 13th weekend. Takashi Yamazaki's second film based on Ryōhei Saigan's Sanchoume no Yuuhi - Yuuyake no Uta manga took in US$64,032 for a US$40,187,638 total haul. Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion - Mō Hitotsu no Hyōrinmaru, Noriyuki Abe's second film based on the Bleach television anime series and manga, fell again from the #12 spot to #19 in its sixth weekend. It added US$49,891 to its US$6,915,595 gross-to-date. Eiga de Tōjō! Tamagotchi Doki Doki! Uchū no Maigotchi!? (Appearing on Film! Tamagotchi!: Lost in Space!?), the first feature-length film based on the toys that spawned the virtual pet fad, dropped out of the top 20. Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street stayed at #1 for its second weekend.
