Digital Manga Picks Up Tezuka's Swallowing the Earth (Updated)

posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
1968-69 manga was among his first aimed at older audience, mature themes

Although most of Digital Manga Publishing's New York Comic Con panel was devoted to promoting its 801 Media boys'-love imprint and the publication of the Speed Racer! Mach GoGoGo box set, Digital Manga Publishing also announced that it will be releasing Swallowing the Earth by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka. Originally published from April 1968 to July 1969 in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine, Swallowing the Earth is one of Tezuka's first stories aimed explicitly at an older audience. The main character of this tale, Zefilth, is rumored to be a woman of such beauty that everyone who sees her immediately falls in love. As it turns out, there are actually seven identical Zefilths, all of whom are bent on exacting revenge on men around the world for the sins of the entire male gender.

Update: The MangaCast and A geek by any other name blogs notes that two of 801 Media's boys'-love titles are new: Ze by Yuki Shimizu and Koi wa Aserazu by Mio Tennohji.
