Yen Press to Be Combined with Hachette's Orbit

Yen Publishing Director Johnson to leave; Publishing Director Hassler to stay

The Hachette Book Group has announced today that it will be combining its Yen Press manga and graphic novel imprint with its Orbit science fiction and fantasy imprint to create a new Orbit division. Tim Holman, the current head of Orbit, will lead the new division as Vice-President and Publisher under Hatchette CEO and Chairman David Young. Yen Press Publishing Director Kurt Hassler will remain with the division under Holman, but he will be taking over the duties of another Yen Press Publishing Director, Rich Johnson. Young said in the press release, "We are of course sorry that Rich Johnson will be leaving the company, however as the Yen business has evolved it has become clear that a single Publishing Director for the imprint is most appropriate."

Holman added, “Orbit and Yen Press will continue to develop independently. However, as a single division, we'll be able to combine our efforts in a number of key areas to great effect."

Yen Press currently publishes the Yen Plus anthology magazine and many manga, manhwa, and graphic novel titles, including Bamboo Blade, Cirque du Freak, Higurashi: When They Cry, Maximum Ride, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Nabari No Ou, Soul Eater, Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning, Sumomomo Momomo, Sundome, and Zombie-Loan.
