Funimations Adds My Bride Is A Mermaid! Comedy Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
The North American distributor FUNimation Entertainment has announced today that it has acquired the My Bride is a Mermaid romantic comedy television anime series from Media Net. The story's heroine, San Seto, is a mermaid who rescues a boy named Nagasumi Michishio from drowning. However, if a human sees a mermaid's true form, both must be killed. Nagasumi and San have to marry and keep San's mermaid form a secret to survive. The Japanese title, which literally means the "bride of Seto," is a triple wordplay on the heroine's name, Japan's Seto Inland Sea, and a 1972 pop song called "Seto no Hanayome."
Director Seiji Kishi (Ragnarok The Animation, Magikano, Galaxy Angel Rune) adapted Tahiko Kimura's romantic comedy manga from Square Enix's Gangan Wing magazine with the Gonzo and AIC anime studios. The 26-episode television series aired in Japan from April to September of 2007, and a two-part video sequel was released between last November and last month. Funimation will released the television series in North America in two half-season sets beginning later this year.
