Hellsing Creator Hirano's New Manga Will Be Drifters
posted on by Egan Loo
The May issue of Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine has announced on Monday the title and story setting of the next work from Hellsing creator Kouta Hirano. Drifters will center around a band of adventurers from Japan's sengoku jidai, the era of the warring states known internationally for inspiring many samurai stories. The magazine announced in January that Hirano will launch the new series in the June issue on April 30. Hirano ended Hellsing in the same magazine last September after 11 years. He had originally said in a June 12 blog entry last year that he was planning a fantasy work and a one-shot mystery story set in the early Showa era (after 1926) after he finishes Hellsing.
The same June issue of Young King Ours will publish the return of the Yoru to Hoshi no Mukou manga from Ichiko Ima (Hyakki Yakou Shou, Game). Ima has not worked on this suspense manga since her initial 2000-2001 run in Shonengahosha's Ours Girl magazine.
Dark Horse Comics published the ninth volume of the Hellsing manga in North America last October. The sixth volume of the Hellsing Ultimate video anime adaptation of the manga will ship in Japan this summer, while Funimation and Geneon Entertainment shipped the fourth volume in North America in September. Hirano marked the end of his Hellsing manga on Monday with interviews in both Young King Ours and Zassohsa's Puff magazine. Aurora Publishing is scheduled to publish Ima's Hyakki Yakou Shou under the name Beyond Twilight this summer.
