Joe Hisaishi, the composer of most Studio Ghibli anime films, has won the Best Movie Music Artist Award at the 18th Japan Movie Critics Awards on Tuesday. Hisaishi was recognized for his soundtrack work on Yojiro Takita's live-action Departures (Okuribito) film and on Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea anime film. Takita himself won the Best Director Award for Departures, which also won the Best Foreign Film Award at this year's Oscars.
Mitsu Kawasaki won a "Special Fighting Sprit Award" after directing three films within the past year, including the live-action Neko Rahmen Taishō (Pussy Soup) film adaptation of Kenji Sonishi's Neko Rahmen manga. Hiroko Sakurai won the Golden Glory Award (Haruo Mizuno Award) after appearing in her latest Ultraman movie spinoff, Daikessen! Super Ultra 8 Kyōdai.
