2nd season streams later this year; download, merchandising rights also acquired

The media-distribution website Crunchyroll has announced on Friday that it has acquired The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime "for multiple Crunchyroll platforms." Crunchyroll is releasing the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya, and Nyorōn Churuya-san on its subscription-based streaming service, followed by a release on its ad-supported free streaming platform.

Crunchyroll is already streaming the first four episodes of the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya now, and the remaining episodes will follow next week. The site will then stream the second season later this year.

Crunchyroll will also handle download sales and print-on-demand merchandise for the franchise. The acquisition will be available in the Americas, the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Middle East and Africa.
