Walt Disney Studios Japan has announced the details of its July 14 Blu-ray Disc release of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind film on Monday. The Blu-ray Disc will contain soundtracks in Japanese, English, French, German, Korean, Cantonese Chinese, and Mandarin Chinese. (The Japanese track will be in linear PCM 2.0ch, while the other tracks will be in Dolby Digital 2.0ch.) The disc will also have Japanese, English, French, Korean, and Chinese subtitles. Just like the DVD version, the Blu-ray release will have an audio commentary track by Evangelion co-creator/Nausicaä key animator Hideaki Anno and Nausicaä assistant director Kazuyoshi Katayama. It will also add a December 2009 recording of a conversation between Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and Anno.
The video extras will include the storyboards, which can be played in a picture-in-picture (PIP) simultaneously with the film itself, as well as the recording script and five trailers. The package will bundle a reproduction of the 1984 Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Guide Book.
