The Japanese publisher Shogakukan has launched its free Shonen Sunday for iPhone app on Apple's iTunes Store in Japan on Wednesday. The app for iPhone and iPod touch mobile devices offers notable manga from Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine and charges an in-app purchase fee per volume. Shogakukan also has an iPad version in the works.
The initial manga lineup includes the first five volumes from each of the following titles: Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura, Kazuhiro Fujita's Ushio & Tora, Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan, and Takuya Mitsuda's Major. Each volume costs 450 yen (about US$4.93), and two more volumes of each title will be added every week. The app is currently not available in the American version of the iTunes Store.
