Sequel to CAPCOM's Biohazard: Degeneration (Resident Evil: Degeneration) feature

The game company CAPCOM and the production company Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced on Tuesday that production has begun on Biohazard: Damnation, a sequel to the 3D computer-animated Biohazard: Degeneration (Resident Evil: Degeneration) feature film. The new film will retain the main character Leon S. Kennedy from the first film. It is slated to open in 2012 in theaters with stereoscopic 3D equpiment.

The first film played in three Japanese theaters for a limited two-week run in 2008, and it earned 40 million yen (about US$480,000) at the box office. It later sold 1.6 million copies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc worldwide. The original Biohazard/Resident Evil survival horror game franchise has sold 44 million copies worldwide since 1996. The most recent installment, Biohazard 5/Resident Evil 5, sold 5.5 million copies alone.
