The Cinema Today website confirms that Hoshi o Ou Kodomo: Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, the latest film by Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 5 Centimeters Per Second), will open on 2011. As previously revealed on Tuesday, the Yahoo! Movies Japan website will stream teaser footage from the project on November 9 at noon.
The story centers on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. However, she embarks on a journey of adventure to meet a boy again, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world, as well as loss.
Update: Takayo Nishimura (5 Centimeters Per Second, Before Green Gables) is designing the characters and overseeing the animation process. Takumi Tanji (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days) is directing the art, and musical composer Tenmon (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star) is collaborating with Shinkai again.
