Award-winning Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami will release his first novel in three years. Publisher Bungeishunju Ltd. stated that his next novel is scheduled for release in April. His last novel, 1Q84, was released in Japan in 2009 and in English in 2011. Pre-orders for his last novel sold out within hours, bumping its first print run to 480,000 copies and selling over a million editions in its first month.

In an entirely separate announcement, Japanese publisher Shueisha announced that the 10th volume of Riku Ranjo's Akikan! light novel series will be released on March 22. Volume 9 of the series was released in 2009. The series was adapted into a manga by Momotaro Miyano, a 12-episode television anime series in 2009, and a video anime project.
