BL Manga Bond of Dreams, Bond of Love Sold in Canada Despite Seizure
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
North American retailer Right Stuf confirmed with ANN that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized a shipment containing one or more volumes of Yaya Sakuragi's Bond of Dreams, Bond of Love boys-love manga series and notified Right Stuf that the items were not allowed to be imported into Canada. Right Stuf told ANN that CBSA said the reason for the seizure was the the items had been classified as pornography.
Right Stuf had at first noted on its listings for all four volumes in the series that the series was banned in Canada, but the company has since changed the wording of the warning on the pages. The listing now notes: "We cannot ship this item to Canadian addresses, and it likely will be seized by Customs if ordered."
Right Stuf noted that it has also marked some Digital Manga Inc. manga titles and some adult anime titles with the same message to let Canadian customers know the products may be seized at customs. The company added sometimes it does not know about titles that may get seized until after it hears about CBSA seizing a title, which may be weeks or months after the actual seizure.
SuBLime, the boys-love imprint of Viz Media that publishes Bond of Dreams, Bond of Love in North America, confirmed with ANN that the series has not been banned in Canada and major Canadian retailers are still carrying the series. The series is currently available to purchase on amazon.ca and at Indigo.
