Ghost in the Shell: Arise 1 Earns 36 Million Yen in Theaters

The first volume of the Ghost in the Shell Arise anime, Ghost in the Shell Arise border: 1 Ghost Pain, sold about 30,000 tickets for 36,076,200 yen (about US$369,000) in theaters this past weekend. The film was released on June 22, and it ranked #8 in weekend box office receipts, and #1 in highest per-screen average. The film also ranked #4 on the TOHO CINEMAS theater chain.
The movie is based on Masamune Shirow's original manga. The next volume, Ghost in the Shell Arise Border 2: Ghost Whispers, will open in theaters on November 30. Similar to Border 1, there will be a limited run in theaters with advance DVD/Blu-ray Disc sales, and the DVD and Blu-ray discs will then be released at retail on December 25.
