Adaptation of Tetsuo Hara's manga about real-life samurai to premiere on July 2

The media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Monday that it will stream the Gifū Dōdō!! Kanetsugu to Keiji television anime series. Crunchyroll will stream the series on Tuesdays starting on July 2 at 2:00 p.m. EDT for premium members in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. Each episode will be available to free members one week later for viewers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and South Africa.

The series stars Daisuke Namikawa (Fate/Zero, Aquarion Evol) as samurai Naoe Kanetsugu and Takuya Satō (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Cardfight!! Vanguard) as Maeda Keiji. (Historical Japanese names are listed family name first here, while modern names are listed family name last.) Kouji Kikkawa (live-action Rurouni Kenshin's Jin'e Udō) is narrating the series and signing the theme song "Samurai Rock ~Gifū Dōdō!! ver."

Bob Shirohata (Hetalia, Hiiro no Kakera) is directing the series at Studio DEEN. Yasuhiro Imagawa (Shin Mazinger Shōgeki! Z-Hen, Berserk) is writing scripts, while the original manga's co-creator Tetsuo Hara (Fist of the North Star) will supervise the production. Masaaki Kanan is in charge of character design, and KAZSIN will score the music. Makoto Shiraishi (DD Hokuto no Ken) will serve as program manager.

Comic Zenon magazine announced in April that a television anime adaptation of Tetsuo Hara's historical manga Gifū Dōdō!! Naoe Kanetsugu -Maeda Keiji Sake Gatari- had been green-lit. The manga follows the adventures of the real-life samurai Naoe Kanetsugu.

The series will premiere in Japan on July 2 on TV Tokyo at 1:40 a.m.
