Nexon Korea officially announced MapleStory 2, the new massively multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) that it is developing, and opened the game's teaser website. The company plans to use this site to report on the game's development process to fans. It aims to start tests next year.

Nexon Korea is making MapleStory 2 as an isometric 3D MMORPG, and it intends to make it clearly distinquishable from the first MapleStory game. Nexon Korea CEO Seo Min noted that the first game has been enjoyed by over 100 million people in 100 countries worldwide, and expressed his hope that the two different titles will grow and mature side-by-side.

The first game inspired the 2007-2008 television anime of the same name.
