Anime of Nitroplus mascot girl to premiere in January

Pony Canyon began streaming the first promotional video for the upcoming anime adaptation of NitroPlus's Super Sonico mascot, SoniAni -Super Sonico the Animation-, on Friday. The video features the opening theme song "Beat Goes On!" by the title character.

In the video, Super Sonico is awakened by her alarm cat and many cats. After leisurely eating her breakfast, she realizes that she is late for work and rushes out the door.

"Super Sonico," the mascot girl of the "Nitro Super Sonic" events held by Nitroplus, is credited with playing herself in the lead role and performing the opening theme song. (The theme will be Super Sonico's major label debut.) Mai Goto, Mami Ozaki, and Ryota Takeuchi round out the main cast as the band leader/bassist Misuzu Fuji, drummer Fūri Watanuki, and manager Kitamura.

Kenichi Kawamura is directing the anime at the studio WHITE FOX (Steins;gate, Katanagatari, The Devil is a Part-Timer!). Yousuke Kuroda is writing the scripts, and Masafumi TAMURA is designing the characters.

In Super Sonico's back story, she is already a photoshoot model, game character, and a musician, even as she studies as a college student. She is also part of a three-piece girl band named "Daiichi Uchū Sokudo" (Fastest Speed in Space) as the vocalist and guitarist.

The character already inspired her own line of games, and figures including a giant 1/2-scale statue. Super Sonico is also appearing in Namco Bandai Games' Super Heroine Chronicle for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita systems and even in a promotion for THQ's Saints Row: The Third game.

The anime will premiere on Japanese television in January.
