Wakfu's English Dub Kickstarter Adds 2 Japanese-Animated Episodes
posted on by Egan Loo
The Kickstarter fundraising campaign for an English dub of France's Wakfu: The Animated Series reached its second stretch goal of US$150,000 on Sunday. The staff at Ankama now plans to dub the 26-minute "Noximilian the Watchmaker" special episode and the 45-minute Ogrest the Legend original animated video.
"Noximilian the Watchmaker" featured lead traditional animator Michio Mihara (key animator on The Cat Returns, Princess Mononoke, Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade, Millennium Actress), director Eunyoung Choi (Kick-Heart key animator, Kaiba episode director), and character designer Masaaki Yuasa (director of Kaiba, Kick-Heart, The Tatami Galaxy).
The Ogrest the Legend video "was made using traditional animation techniques in Japan as a collaboration between Ankama, MADHOUSE, Studio Wyeth, and Studio Ghibli."
The campaign is committed to releasing the first 26-episode season (and the Ogrest the Legend video) on Blu-ray Disc with the English and French dubs. The release will also have English, French, and Spanish subtitles. The staff pledges to add the English dub of Season 2 plus two graphic novels if the third stretch goal of US$200,000 is reached. The fourth stretch goal of US$300,000 would add the English dub of three exclusive original animated videos.
The staff describes the story which began with an online game:
The Wakfu series takes you on a journey through wonderful lands populated by fantastic creatures and inhabited by people with extraordinary magical powers. Follow Yugo, a young orphan of mysterious origins in his quest to find his real family but he will not be alone as his five companions will provide him valuable assistance...
