Way of the Househusband Anime Confirms 2nd Part

Anime debuted globally on Netflix on Thursday

A special live program for the anime series of Kousuke Oono's The Way of the Househusband (Gokushufudō) manga confirmed on Friday that the anime will get an upcoming Part 2.

The anime debuted globally on Netflix on Thursday with five episodes.

As previously announced, Shizuka Itou plays Miku, Tatsu's wife. Kazuyuki Okitsu plays Masa, Tatsu's former gang underling. Kenjiro Tsuda plays protagonist Tatsu. Tsuda both directed and starred as Tatsu in a live-action promotional video for the manga in December 2019.

The cast also includes:

  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Torajirō, a former legendary yakuza turned crepe shop owner
  • Atsuko Tanaka as Hibari Torii, a former yakuza boss who now works part time at a grocery store after her group fell
  • M.A.O as Gin, Miku and Tatsu's cat who talks to himself while the owners are gone
  • Jun Fukushima as a young yakuza lieutenant whom Tatsu encounters in the supermarket
  • Kimiko Saitō as the chairperson of Tatsu's neighborhood committee
  • Masashi Nogawa and Junichi Yanagita as two policemen who sometimes make inquiries on Tatsu
  • Houchu Ohtsuka as a former yakuza boss who has since went clean

Chiaki Kon (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal: Season III, Devils and Realist, Junjō Romantica) directed the anime at J.C. Staff, and Susumu Yamakawa (Back Street Girls: Gokudols) supervised the series scripts.

The Way of the Househusband follows a retired yakuza member known as "Immortal Tatsu" who is living out his post-crime career as a househusband. He still manages to find his way into trouble from time to time, except it's in the grocery aisle instead of some back alley.

Oono launched the manga on Shinchosha's Kurage Bunch website in February 2018, and Shinchosha published the seventh volume on March 9. Viz Media is publishing the manga in English, and it released the fourth volume in September 2020. The manga has inspired a live-action series that premiered in October 2020.

The manga won the Best Humor Publication category at last year's Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. The series was acknowledged as a runner-up in 2019's Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards' web manga category and came in at #9 in last year's Web Manga General Election. The Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook for 2019 ranked the manga at #8 for its top manga series for men. The series also ranked on Honya Club's "Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics" lists for 2018 and 2019.
