11 a.m. show - 5 CENTIMETERS PER SECOND is a chain of 3 independent shorts that follow a boy in Tokyo from the first half of the 1990s into the present.

1:15 show - THE PIANO FOREST is adapted from the 3.5 million-copy-selling manga by Makoto Isshiki. The story revolves around two boy prodigies and a solitary piano hidden in the forest.

3:30 show - APPLESEED: EX MACHINA is based on the enormously popular manga by Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell). The film is produced by Hong Kong action legend John Woo and directed by Shinji Aramaki, who will introduce the film.



"Genius Party" Anime Premieres

TICKETS ONLY $25 EACH NIGHT. Usually reserved for major international film festivals, your first chance to see these premieres is here at the KC! They come from Japan's top anime talents, each selected by Executive Producer Eiko Tanaka to create their dream projects. Directors Shinichiro Watanabe, Koji Morimoto, and Mahiro Maeda will introduce and speak about their films.

Laptop Orchestra

TICKETS $18 - ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY. Interactive computer music meets Japanese traditional music in this fascinating digital experiment. Musician Ko Ishikawa sends sounds from his sho (mouth organ) through computers while the laptoppers - interacting onstage via an A/V network - respond in real time, generating an infinite field of sound possibilities.
