The First Official International Cool Japan Awards in Osaka
The world to make Osaka POP - Osaka to make the world POP
On the 31st of October 2013, in a Press Conference held at the Osaka Government Tourism Bureau, the Director (Kano Kunio) made a declaration, “Osaka is the most POP city in the Universe”. Following this announcement the Osaka-POP campaign was launched (1st of November), along with the revelation that Osaka will be holding the first International Cool Japan Awards - an award created in recognition of the millions of Japanese Pop Culture Fans across the world.
The campaign has as objective to make Osaka more attractive by bringing out its “pop-ness” and welcome visitors from across the world to enjoy the fun that Osaka's wide ranging culture provides.
Osaka seeks participation from fans around the world
To mark this launch year a special topic of award entry has been chosen - Osaka calls upon worldwide Otakus, fans, artists, and creators to help conceive the POP Osaka Mascot Characters “Mio & Tsukushi”. The selected award winning characters will serve as the official Osaka POP “Ambassador” to promote the vibrant city of Osaka and its pop-ness to the world.
