PAX West is the Stuff of Starforged Legends as Shadowverse Unveils its Next Card Expansion
Cygames takes to the Twitch stage to debut the trailer for the next Shadowverse expansion and announce its global esports tournament, the World Grand Prix
Seattle – September 2, 2017 – Cygames unveiled the trailer for the next Shadowverse expansion at PAX West today, and announced plans for a global invitational esports tournament with a prize pool of $120,000: the World Grand Prix.
Starforged Legends is the sixth card set for the hit digital card game from Japan, and will be released on September 28. The expansion will add an astronomical 104 cards and a whole constellation of playing styles to the ever-evolving multiplayer metagame at the heart of the Shadowverse experience, offering a fresh, astrologically-themed experience to players both new and old.
And while Starforged Legends propels the metagame to stellar heights, the World Grand Prix will see the game itself take a giant leap on to the global stage, featuring top Shadowverse players from all over the world competing in Tokyo on December 23 and 24, for a prize pool of $120,000 (USD).
Both Starforced Legends and the World Grand Prix were unveiled on stage in partnership with Twitch, the world's leading social video platform and community for gamers and creators. It was simultaneously broadcast as part of the NGE Mid-Season Special, which marks the mid-point of the NGE Shadowverse Open Season 2, in which the very best Shadowverse players in Europe and North America continue to compete for a prize pool of $32,000.
Shadowverse will be playable at the Twitch booth (#1909) at PAX West until the end of the show, on September 4. Visitors can compete to win limited edition promo cards, pick up tips from influential members of the Shadowverse community, and check out some Shadowverse- themed cosplay – including the very rowdy root vegetable, Ultimate Carrot.
Since its launch in June last year, Shadowverse has established itself as Japan's leading digital strategic card game, and is at the forefront of Japan's burgeoning esports scene. The release of Starforged Legends and the launch of the World Grand Prix mark yet another evolution for this remarkable game.
