Tougen Anki Hits #1 in Japan and Enters Netflix's Global Top 5

July 28, 2025 | Tokyo, Japan — The anime series TOUGEN ANKI is rapidly gaining attention both in Japan and around the world. In the third week of July 2025, the series climbed to #5 on Netflix's Global Top 10 (Non-English TV) and claimed the #1 spot in Japan, cementing its position as one of the breakout anime hits of the summer season.

In addition to Netflix, TOUGEN ANKI is now streaming worldwide across multiple platforms, including Crunchyroll, Prime Video, and the It's Anime YouTube channel. Viewer numbers and engagement remain strong across all services, and the series continues to generate buzz on social media, with a surge in fan art, reaction videos, and discussion posts worldwide.

Premiering on July 11, 2025, the anime is based on the popular manga by Yura Urushibara, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion (AKITASHOTEN), which has surpassed 4 million copies in circulation.

Inspired by the iconic Japanese folktale Momotaro, the story follows a new generation of dark heroes fighting to survive a blood-soaked conflict between those who carry the blood of oni and the descendants of Momotaro.

■Synopsis
"You inherit the blood of an Oni (demon)..."

The bloodlines of "Oni" and "Momotaro" have been passed down among certain humans for generations. Long ago, the Oni, aware of their own ferocity, lived in seclusion. However, their peace was shattered by an invasion led by Momotaro. Over thousands of years, these two factions formed the "Momotaro Agency" and the "Oni Agency," respectively, and have been locked in conflict ever since.

The protagonist, Shiki Ichinose, suddenly learns of his Oni lineage following an unexpected attack by Momotaro. This revelation sets Shiki on a path to discover the destiny that lies within his blood — a meeting with the Oni dwelling within him.
