It looks like I've triggered an algorithm that has identified me as someone who consistently tries to manipulate the percentages either up or down. Oh, well.....

I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?

The Beginner's Guide to The King's Avatar by Rebecca Silverman
Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos (movie) Decent (dub & sub)
Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress (movie) Excellent
Memories of the Hunter Girl
  • 1st 5 minutes: An absurd combination of ancient and 20th century.
  • Hamaji realizes that her actions have consequences ─ consequences that she must live with.
  • 01:27:00 | Unexpected allies.
Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita (OAV)
  • I smiled.
  • I cried.
  • And I liked the ED.
  • Ga-Rei-Zero (TV) Good (dub), Excellent (sub)
    • So I would have rated this 11/11 but for the fact of the fight scene in episode #11 wherein the agency head lets Yomi grab back her sword. Kinda stupid.
    • Funimation's dub is sort of a wreck.
    • How do you adapt a manga that is poorly regarded? By going for as close to a tabula rasa as you possibly can. In this case by making the adaptation a prequel, instead! Bloody brilliant.
Galaxy Express 999 (movie) Excellent (dub), Masterpiece (sub)

    • This seems to be a coming-of-age story. I am (surprisingly enough) impressed.
    • On a surface level, this movie is aimed at children; but on another level it has a philosophical subtext that only adults could know and appreciate..... Quite frankly, it reminds me very much of Cowboy Bebop.
    • A rewatch is practically mandatory!
    • "The ending is paramount."

    • Very little background is given about Tetsuro's friends/gang. (CON)
    • I find the OST to be surprisingly affecting.
The OST is credited to Nozomi Aoki

Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy (movie) Decent
For the life of me, I cannot figure out what this movie is supposed to be about. Is it supposed to be a Part #1?
    I'm rating it at 7/11.
Galaxy Express 999: Glass no Clair (movie) Good
The trauma that Tetsuro feels is real, but how does a delusion physically kill somebody? That doesn't make sense to me.
    Rating it at 8/11.
(The) Galaxy Railways (TV) Decent (dub), Good (sub)
OK, so what does if for me is my feeling that the ending is a bit underwhelming. Really, the alleged antagonists really needed much more character development than what they actually got. I really did want to rate this series higher. I think that the key to enjoying this series is being able to suspend disbelief about a steam locomotive (with an atomic reactor?!) travelling through outer space (personally, I think that it is a rather cool concept!).
(The) Garden of Sinners (movie series) Masterpiece

Alan recommends a non-chronological release watching order.....

    • In Chapter #5 (0:30:00) silence is used to great effect.
    • A great OST that reminds me of Puella Magi Madoka -- see Yuki Kajiura.
    • A terrific ending -- I'm invariably affected by the ending.
(The) Garden of Sinners/recalled out summer (movie) Excellent
    Great OST.

    Theron Martin's review

Here, a wikia link is explained.

(The) Garden of Words (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)
Gatchaman The Movie Excellent (dub & sub)

I must confess that I'm surprised that I ended up rating it as highly as I did; the only reason I purchased the movie was out of nostalgia ─ I had seen episodes of "Battle of the Planets" as a young child.

Because of the unusual deaths I bumped my rating up a notch to 9/11; the OST, combined with the open-ended nature of the ending, caused me to bump it up another notch to 10/11.

    GATE (TV) Good
    winsome & relatable characters
    GATE (TV 2) Good
It's nice seeing the JSDF taking names and kicking ass!
I've changed my mind; and, thus, I've lowered my rating by two ranks. What changed my mind? Because, in my opinion, Saga of Tanya the Evil does it much better.
Ghost in the Shell (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)
Compare the OST with Cowboy Bebop!
