Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity and soon -- The Avengers!)
The guy's style is perfect for FMA! The combination of comedy and dramatic pieces, a rich fantasy world and a great plot, strong female characters. All there. Although, he's a better writer than Arakawa. And he doesn't like happy endings (or too happy). And he LOVES killing off characters, something Arakawa doesn't. But other than that, he's perfect! What do you think? Agree, disagree? Who would have been your choice if you've been given the chance to choose? |

I think Micheal Bay would be the obvious choice here. With the Brilliant adaptation he did of the transformers series id like to see him give treatment to the FMA universe. Screw Edward and All he could base the entire movie around Roy mustang as he single-handily brings down Father and his homunculus minions with the help of his partner Riza (Megan Fox).

I really hope you are just speculating this because the chances of there being an FMA LA movie are zero. And thank God for that because I'd rather not see it get a Hollywood make-over.
My choice? No one. I'm happy with the anime/manga. |

I wouldn't want a live action FMA movie. I'd want a live action FMA TV series. It could not be condensed properly into a movie. As for who would direct it...? Dunno. But not a movie, a TV series. Neither of which is going to happen.

My opinion on a Full Metal Alchemist live action film? NO! Just no.
After seeing what happened to DBZ, Speed Racer, I really don't want Hollywood to touch this one. First off, you'd have to a find a actor who is precisely the same size as Edward and Alphonse. Also, FMA isn't exactly for kids either, so the only way the movie would be salvageable is to make it PG13 and do minimal editing as well. Although, it would be pretty hard to make this film worse than either DBZ or Speed Racer, given what Hollywood's past with live action anime adaption films, nothing surprises me anymore. |

But to answer the initial post, NO, not Joss Whedon. He lost it a long time ago. Get Michael Haneke involved. Tell him that it's got body horror and torture of children, has spiritual themes, and raises deep ethical questions, and assure him that he'll love it! I'll say the same thing about this I say about all hollywood movie adaptions. They should not be done ever. Anime has many aspects that you simply cannot replicate in live action. An FMA live action would likely be a quick, slapdash money grab.
So no one should direct an FMA live action film because the chances of it doing the source material justice is about 0.00000000000001%. Anime should stay in anime. |

Ehh, I don't like his fight scenes. Fight begins. Camera shakes frantically and I don't get what's going on. And there are so many destruction and fight scenes typically, that they don't really matter anymore; at least that's how I feel about Michael Bay movies. |
