I've been looking around shops and I haven't seen any Playstation 2 games that were originally anime or anything... this may be because I live in Australia and we don't get everything as it comes out but still there's only like Dragonball GT and i absolutely hate that!!! Any recommendations

There are a few actually:
GitS: SAC (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) -- Third person action/adventure with first person shooter controls, very annoying, but a potentially cool game if you can get past that.
Gungrave -- Third person shooter. I've only played Overdose, but if you like shooting bad guys and just plain blowing stuff up, this is the game for you.
Mobile Suit Gundam -- Haven't played it.
Inu-Yasha: Legend of the Cursed Mask (or whatever it's called) -- Haven't played it either.
The crappily dubbed DBZ: Budokai games -- Only played the first one. I played it on mute and with the original soundtrack playing in the background on my computer. I found it much more fun when doing that .
Shaman King -- Haven't played.
Zone of the Enders (sort of) -- Not anime, the two of them tie in with the anime, though I haven't seen it (the anime).
At least, these are the ones I've seen here in The States.
If you really want some anime-based games, you can import them from Japan, although the only good ones I've seen from there are Super Robot Wars and Berserk.

There's also Yu Yu Hakusho which looks somewhat like the Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen games on GC.

(InuYasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask, and it's highly recommended for InuYasha fans. Ignore the critics -- this game is really good, and has a lot of endings and subquests to uncover. Also, I felt that I got to learn more about the InuYasha characters by playing the game, which increased my appreciation of the anime.)
There is also the InuYasha: A Fedual Fairy-Tale fighting game for the PS1 which was published by BANDAI and developed by DBZ Budokai 1-3 developer Dimps. It features a freeform quest mode and full Japanese voice-overs by the original Japanese VAs (with English subtitles).
I know that there is an Initial D game for PS2 (Initial D: Special Stage) that has been getting recent press on the import side because it's a special version of the arcade game in arcades right now (which is currently Initial D Version 3)
Also, the PS1 game Ghost in the Shell, which many have criticized because it boils down to repetitious missions with Kusanagi always inside her Fuchikoma tank-robot.
I've looked at and rated some CardCaptor Sakura games as well for the PC. Of note there is the import Card Hunter Saurka 2, by defunct D.K. Soft in Japan. Take control of Sakura or Li Saiyoran and battle your way through Clow Card battles in a Street Fighter II manner. The more Clow Creatures you defeat, the more cards you get, and the powers you can use are different for both characters. (You can buy this one from Himeya Soft for $18 + shipping -- a real bargain for an enjoyable CardCaptor Sakura collectible.)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum- Decent tactical game, one of the first "anime" games I reviewed. Check it out.
Shaman King: Power of the Spirit- Better than above game in that it adds a third-person action element to the tactical gameplay. NYCE.
Yu Yu Hakuso: Dark Tournament- If you enjoy fighting as Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei or Kurama against the toughest fighters Demonworld has to offer, this one's for you.
DragonBall Z: Budokai 3- If you are ANY type of DBZ fan BUY THIS GAME. Story mode is back, and your favorite fighting action FINALLY has been simulated in the game.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex- Not thrilled about control theme or lack of fluidity in the Major's jumps. If you like it, go for it.

Wrong. ID:SS is not a carbon copy of ANY of the ID:AS. Never make that comparison.
The Game has extra stages (Enna for starters) and the game has a few major bugs in it (Kai on Iro can go thru guardrails when he jumps.) Plus there is NO multiplayer feature, so VS battles are completely non-existant.
Again, NEVER make the comparison.

The anime Star Ocean EX is based on the Star Ocean game series - the 3rd installment of which came out recently for PS2. I haven't played this one, but 2nd story - the previous release for PS1 - was a great game, and one of my favorites. From what I hear, the Anime is good as well.
The anime series Wild Arms is also based on an RPG series available for PS2 (and PS1). I've never played this series, but it's supposed to be good. The Anime, however, I've heard mixed reactions on.
Of course, we all know about the Final Fantasy series, and the captivating FF:U series and FF:CC OVA. There's also the Robotech and Transformers/Beastwars games.
According to ANN's own encyclopedia, there's supposedly a Japanese RahXephon game that even comes with an OVA, but who knows if we'll ever see that in English *crosses fingers*
Also, if you have a Dreamcast, there was a pretty fun game called Sword of the Berserk that starred our favorite medi-evil swordsman Gatsu. The Dreamcast didn't have any region-coding - at least here in America - so you could play all the Anime tie-in games from Japan you wanted. Just gotta get past that Language Barrier . Unfortunately for us, the DC wasn't too popular, but that means they should probably be pretty cheap now. A search on the net shows there's still a lot of development going on for it - homebrew games and media player apps being some of the best content.

If they ever get around to making it, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. I hate the card battle system, but once you grasp the idea of it, it's not too bad. Sora adds alittle to the story, but Riku adds alot for his side.
.hack is a nice but after a while it does get alittle the fighting system does get boring, but if you played MMORPG, you'll right at home. Plus the storyline rocks.
Lastly, Inu Yasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask. The fights take too long, but it is fun to play outside of that.

Actually, there is a PS2 Berserk game. It sort of works like X-Men legends in a way, it's actually pretty cool.
For PS2 games based off anime, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND Hajime no Ippo Victorious Boxers. I would say it's based off the manga more than the anime but I highly reccomend it.

Thanks for the info. I only went by the articles I saw on it, since I haven't bought the import.
btw, anyone know why there isn't a conversion of Initial D the Arcade Game? Konami rolled out DDRs and some of their other Arcade Games to home market, but Sega isn't with this one? (I know they probably don't have the "Home Console" rights, but then who does have them then?)

Blood will tell (for PS2) may not have been based from Anime, but the concept is from the father of Manga/Anime Osuma Tekuza. I rate this one almost as high as Dreamcast's Sword of the Beserk.(great english dubbing too.) hopefully it won't go unoticed in the midst of the hype that is GTA;San andreas.

Have you ever tried Arc the Lad ? I enjoyed it, I loved the two sides that you see the game from. it's a good game if you like the final fantasy tactics type battle style, though it is a bit different.

Alright for you Gundam fans there are a couple of choices For you UC peeps, PS2 has been very nice to you. There are three titles that I know of, the first release was Journey to Jaburo, I haven't played it yet. Next was the Zeonic Front, like Jaburo but you get to be the so called evil.... And lastly my Faver Gundam Feddy vs Zeon. Very interesting game either a two on two combat using your favorite Mecha from the series, or a story mode following the series from either side. This game is for the arcade also, if you can find two together you can co-op or fight against one another with a computer ally. Also I think Gundam Battle Assault 3 came out on PS2 I am not too familar with those game so I will hold my Tongue.
I know that in Japan they have Cowboy Beebop, EVA (two different ones) two or so FMA, and i think there was a Hellsing clone game that came out, but I don't remember if that was true. My advice study Japanese, get a Import system and have a field day/year with all the anme you could ever want.
Edit: As like Tony K said GITS:SAC is a very fun game with great ideas like hacking into others, but by the time I figure the controller out I had hacked into my PS2 with an Axe.
