I have just received the Moribito artbox that came with volumes 7 and 8, the pretty one. Sadly, it has an infernal 'Best Buy' sticker stuck to the box itself, rather than the shrink wrap. NOT one of Best Buy's better ideas.
Has anyone figured out a way to get the damn thing off without ruining the box? I've already wrecked one box, which RightStuf was kind enough to replace, I'd rather not wreck this one. I've tried gently peeling the edge back, but it seems to be stuck on pretty tight. I suppose I could live with the sticker as a permanent part of my collection, if I have to, but I can't say I'd be very happy about it. |

Still a proponent of doing this.

Hair dryer on hot setting. Allows the glue to soften for easier removal. I don't recommend a blade unless one is very... patient for obvious reasons.
Take your time and do remove slowly and cautiously. A 2"x2" sticker, for example, can take upwards of 20 minutes to remove depending on glue used. Most stickers use cheap glue, so as you're removing, be sure to put the heat under the lifted part of the sticker. Should come right off. |

With my luck if I tried to use a blade I'd probably gash something, like myself. Thanks Derek, but it's an option of last resort, I fear.
However, a hair dryer has possibilities. I don't happen to own one, but that problem is easy to fix. I presume the heat won't damage the colors in the art, and the paper itself wouldn't get hot enough to be harmed. Thanks, PJ. |

I would reccomend using Goo Gone Pro Power. It's formulated to remove tape adhesive (among other items) and it's non toxic, has no fumes and is safe around pets.

Nks for reminding me that I still had part of that sticker on my box.
What I do is carefully & slowly try to pull of the sticker. If there is residue left then use a wet cloth and wet the sticky part (or if you want you can also lick it) then rub off the residue. Sometimes it takes a few wipes to get all the sticky stuff off. |

Sadly, sometimes I find that no matter what I can't remove the stickers from things without damaging them. I usually carefully remove them, and then use warm soapy water carefully applied to the area, then vigorously rubbed with a washcloth. Then I rinse out the cloth, remove it from the DVD case or glossy manga cover, and quickly dry. You have to be real quick to avoid damage though.
Does anyone else use a similar method? |

I just received my copy of Paradise Lost and it also has a sticker on the slipcover. I really do despise these stickers which serve no purpose and even more so when they can potential nick a piece of the art when taken off. I wish they would just place these things on the shrink rap rather than the box themselves. Unfortunately for me, I nicked a tiny piece from the slipcover of the first Eden of the East movie.
Wish me luck with this one. Edit: Thank Petrified, that technique with the hair dryer worked great. The sticker came right off with no problem. |

Steam is the perfect solution.
Boil some water and hold the item with the sticker so that the steam hits the sticker. After 5 mins it should be really easy to peel off, or might even fall off by itself. My grandma's a stamp collector and this is what she does to get stamps off of envelopes. |

I bought a hair dryer today and applied it to the sticker in question and it worked like a charm! You wouldn't even know there used to be an offensive gummy thing stuck to the side of the box. It was stuck on pretty tight, it took awhile before it started to move, but once moving it came right off. I'll remember this trick. Thanks PJ!

You're very welcome. If anyone else has issues with removing stickers and ways to remove them, feel free to ask. Some other tips: -Lighter fluid is your best friend for removing glue residue. However, be very cautious with it as it dilutes colors and eats plastic. Test in a very small (and non-noticeable) area. Kerosene and acetone are other options, but are more damaging. -If there's a light film of glue residue left over, a smidge of lighter fluid against your fingernail will soften as you lightly scrape it away. Though, be aware prolonged contact will cause burns. Dip your finger in water between tries to reduce the effect and, for common sense's sake, give it a rest if your finger starts to hurt. -Goo gone is an orange-based product and uses citric acid as its emulsifier. Use this sparingly because citric acid will also eat (bleed) colors over time. Make sure you rinse any area well after use. -Never use bleach because it contains chlorine. For those who've yet to take high school chemistry, just take this advice until you can see for yourself what happens. -Call me Heloise and I'll kick your ass. That is all. Enjoy your collectibles. |
