THE ABOVE LINK SPOILS BERSERKER'S IDENTITY. Thought I'd throw that in for people. Jeez, y'all don't seem to care much about preserving the mystery of the show. Edit: I suppose there's not a lot of good the warning will do on a different page. Oh, well, I tried. |

...does this forum have any spoiler policy at all?
I mean, sometimes people will spoiler the stuff that happens in F/SN, and sometimes people won't. Other times people will spoiler something that happened several episodes ago, etc... Is there any solidified policy? Something like "after the 5th post talking about an episode, you don't need to spoiler the contents" or something? |

I would assume that common sense would be to not read a thread of an ongoing show if you aren't up to date with it and don't want to be spoiled. It would be extremely cumbersome to limit what we can discuss while worrying about spoilers for people really shouldn't be reading the thread in the first place. That being said I agree that people need to be careful about spoiling stuff in the show that hasn't happened yet. It's ok if it's just speculation but if you a source or something make sure it is clearly labelled as a spoiler. And honestly as long everybody makes proper user of the [spoiler] tags it shouldn't be an issue. However even then I think the spoiler tags are unnecessary for things that have already happened as people shouldn't read an ongoing thread if they aren't up to date. And if the show has already finished it really is best practice to finish watching it before you start discussing it. |

The fight scene between Berserker and Archer was just exceptional. As Berserker dodged and fought off every sword that came at him, and all those different colored explosions
, made for one of my favorite anime fights ever. The different colored explosions reminded me of Bakemonogatari when spoiler[Araragi is getting swung around by his intestines and his blood is shown as different vibrant colors] I also liked that Berserker was CG. It made the smoke around him stand out much more than I think it would have had he been drawn instead.
This series is only getting better and better with each passing episode. As far as what to spoiler tag and not to spoiler tag. It's the reader's fault if they've (for example) only seen the first 2 episodes and they decide to read 5 episodes worth of chit-chat, theories, and episode recaps. But at the same time I have been known to peak at a show's thread for the first couple pages to see if it's something I would like or not. My own fault there though if I spoil myself. Just a suggestion for a general rule in this thread about spoilers, assume the people who are active in the thread are up to date with at least the previous episode before the current one(ex: through ep 4 of the 5 F/Z eps so far). That's a safe assumption to make since some posters may check back to see if someone has replied to a post/theory they previously made but has yet to see the current episode. And obviously anything that hasn't happened yet in the show(for those who have read the VN) needs to be spoiler tagged. Also PLEASE spoiler anything that has to do with Berserker's true identity until the show tells us itself. I do not know who it is(though I do have a good idea) and I really don't want to have it spoiled for me. I like when I get to see the events unfold naturally through the course of the story and don't have to think "oh they finally got to that part I heard about 5 weeks ago". Thus ends my spoiler rant PS: not sure what to do about spoiler involving F/SN. Most of us have seen or read F/SN and already know what happens but I did notice a couple pages back an un-spoiler tagged true identity of a servant*cough*archer*cough* that could really ruin one of the secrets of F/SN for someone who hasn't seen the show. |

ah, I'm personally unrestricted when it comes to F/SN.
Fate/Z is a PREQUEL to F/SN, therefore it's written under the assumption that you know about F/SN. The main audience is for those who know about F/SN like any prequel should. Therefore, I have no problem saying Berserker is Heracles, Saber is Arthur, and Rider is hawt. |

Yeah that's why I said I wasn't sure what to do about any possible F/SN spoiler stuff. I purposely waited until finishing F/SN before I picked this show up so I could be at the same knowledge level as most of the people who are watching this show. Well people who have read the VN's are going to know more. The only thing about F/SN that caught my eye in this thread was the archer spoiler. I don't think that was flat-out stated in F/SN and was more for the viewer to figure out on their own(or look up on wiki like me and then feel dumb for not recognizing it earlier
And of course Rider is hawt. That was her obvious true identity from the beginning. Saber was Arthur? I could have sworn Saber was smokin' |

I'm cautious about keeping things spoiler tagged more as a general courtesy than because of specific forum rules.
Similar to what's been mentioned before, I think that once an episode has aired (legally in English, of course), the contents of the episode are fair game for the respective threads. But future spoilers definitely need to be tagged. The show itself was making a big deal about the mystery of Berserker, so clearly it should be kept a secret until the plot chooses to reveal itself. About F/SN... If the fall previews were any indication, there are some people watching F/Z who have never seen F/SN. Even if F/Z is a prequel and even it also spoils some content from F/SN, it is not a necessity to have seen F/SN, and right now F/Z seems entirely capable of standing on its own. As such, I'll at least be spoiler tagging F/SN spoilers for the sake of people who aren't familiar with it, in case they decide to segue into that from F/Z. |

This is the generally-accepted standard for discussion threads on current-release series and I will expect to see it maintained here.
I would very much like to see major spoilers for F/SN also spoiler-tagged, as Etrien is correct in that you can't automatically assume that people watching this series have seen F/SN. The explanations in the first episode laid out the premise plenty well enough for this series to be accessible to neophytes, so unlike, say, My-Otome.Sifr, familiarity with the rest of the franchise isn't necessary for following this prequel. Episode 6
Well, they blew the special effects budget for the time on the previous couple of episodes, so we get another character centric one, though we do get treated with a fight where spoiler[Kirei in his prime fighting with the triple blades of the Church.] We see several master-servant relationships side by side and compare the dynamics. Caster: We find some information about his motivations. spoiler[He's really only interested in Jeanne. While his first appearance suggests that he is in it for his own pleasure, this episode seems to suggest that he does his serial killing as a rebellion against God. This drives a bit of a wedge between him and his master, who is in it for the pleasure. Then again, Ryunosuke probably doesn't care as long as he gets to see cool dark magic.] Lancer: We really need to see this one. spoiler[Surprisingly, Lancer appears to hold nothing against his master, despite their clashing philosophies. He goes so far as to defend him against accusations of cowardice. It will be interesting to see how his chivalrous loyalty leads.] Then again, maybe he is overcompensating for having spoiler[seduced Archibald's wife with his love spot, which is why Archibald didn't appreciate Lancer coming to his defense. This is going to come back and haunt the faction later.] Archer: Given what we see in F/SN, I would have expected that spoiler[Kirei is the one who approached Gilgamesh. It's actually the reverse. Then again, perhaps the Kirei we see in F/SN is the end result of his having taken Gilgamesh's hedonistic philogophies to heart.] Saber: And last, but not least, poor Saber. No matter who her partner is, she never tops. So overall, we see several spoiler[fractures in the master-servant relationship, with different leadups.] |

Personally, I thought episode 6 was a comeback to episodes 1/2.
Lots of talk, little action. I didn't like it much. Sure, the master-servant relationships are nice (and I love the voices!) but I want to see some fights. The fact that Lancer's master spoiler[isn't his mana source could've been explained in battle. I can imagine them killing the master, and then finding out Lancer is still strong. ]. But I guess they are just faithful to the source material. To be honest, I don't even know what I'm looking for with this series. I'm a fan of the original visual novel, but I can't seem to find that "wow" factor here. Maybe it's because we are at just 1/4 of the whole story. Btw. Do you know any way to choose NicoNico subs?? I'm forced to read the spanish translation and it isn't very good. So, in dialogue-heavy episodes sometimes I can't get what they are saying. |

Rgasper, you might appreciate the dialogue heavy episodes if you could understand what the dialogue about. Seems relevant to me. Are you opposed to watching fansubs based on moral principles? If not, there's quite a few sources to get access to English subs that are translated well. And have you not tried Crunch roll yet?
The episodes are just too damn short, but I'm too hooked to skip the series over until it's all released. Also, does spoiler[blowing up a hotel building not qualify as "action"?] The discussion between Gilgamesh and Kirei is critical to understanding Kirei's character and his past. Everything hasn't been revealed quite yet, but I imagine it will come in due time. If you were looking for just pretty fights in Fate/Zero, you are sadly mistaken. Part of this series charm is the characterization-relationships, circumstances, motivations, etc. I mean really if we didn't have these episodes that develop character wouldn't we just be watching a Japanese anime version of UFC? |

So you summoned a hero from the past, spoiler[and now he's boinking your wife (does mana replenishment still work that way canonically?).] The real problem, though, is that your wife then proceeded to recreate the "walk in the circle while spouting exposition" thing. Where did she learn that? She must get around.
I'm glad someone finally pointed out how boring Old Man Tohsaka is. I'm not sure that Kirei is much of an improvement, though. |

A master who is a magician can transfer mana to his servant without using bad CG animals, which are invoked if
1. The master doesn't know how to transfer mana, e.g. spoiler[Shirou to Saber in F/SN] or 2. The two are not a master-servant relationship, e.g. spoiler[Rin to Shirou in UBW.] |

About Lancer and Kayneth's wife, spoiler[it was explained already, that Lancer's cursed birth mark works without his approval. Women fall for him whether he wants it or not ].

Not opposed to watch fansubs if that's the only way I'm gonna get readable subs, but hey, you can't blame me for trying to go the legal way first. Also, I didn't know Crunchy Roll was airing Fate/Zero. I should check it out.
Wasn't only looking for pretty fights. I loved Fate/Stay Night v-novel (Not Fate/Zero, which I didn't read) due to its characterization, motivations, play on their own fantasy rules, etc. So, I started watching Fate/Zero expecting the same deal and enthusiasm. But, so far I've only enjoyed those rare moments when they fight (Eps 4 and 5) and the cute faces (all episodes). Every time they stop and talk, it feels extremely expository, the dialogues are way too long. And, if you add lame subs to the combo, the overall experience is less than rewarding. I'm not saying the series sucks, anyway. The production values are somewhat high, the voices are awesome, and the plot seems to be complex enough to deserve a marathon run when it's all done. Just hope the series gets that special something that it's missing for me. |
