ok in your opinion WHAT is the best made anime you have seen?

id have to say honestly i cant say there is a single best one, because every anime i watch touches me in a different way. i could list all of my favorites, but then you would have alot to read. the best anime to me is one that after YOU watch the end of it YOU sit there and say to yourself "damn, i wish it wasn't over already."

I might be mistaken, but I have come under the impression, that Mononoke-Hime is the overall most respected anime among the masses.

It's defintely my favorite anime movie, I think. To me, it is like LOTR of anime.
This fairy tale adventure of a cool protagonist(sp?) boy who travels to the west to lift his own curse. It sounds a bit like the story of a classic Legend of zelda game to me:)

I just love that movie for so many reasons. Japanese folk lore, and mythology is amazing. The hole concept of animal gods is very imagineable. The music is execellent and animation wonderful.

I think it's a very good and important movie because it leaves something for most people. A little bit of romance, great action, good dialouge, intresting characters, epic story and it actually has a cleaver messege.

Its just to bad that ghibi won't go back and make more "mature" movies, like mononoke.Very Happy

Cowboy Bebop

i mean seriously... that show has such sweet: characters, animation, fight sceens (oh buddy! i love the way Spike moves on his feet when he's doin his kung fu), plot, bad guys.... yeah list goes on. Seriously... cowboy bebop kicks ass... bottem line.

Wow...this is extremely difficult...
I can think of a few that I would say are the BEST...but discarding my PERSONAL opinions...and going with what would probably be considered in general, best... I would have to say Furi Kuri. I loved that anime and i've watched it several times over! It's short...but there is so much packed into it, it's amazing. I think a lot of thought went into making it, and wasn't something that someone could have put together in a night, like some other anime.

But, what i think of as "best", and what i enjoyed most are two completely different things. First i thought of what i enjoyed most, but then decided it probably doesn't qualify as 'best.'

My first thought was Full Moon wo Sagashite. That was an absoultely amazing anime, although at first glance i didn't think that.
However, there were a few extremely close follow-ups, which i would probably rank the same...but that one came first to mind.

For me, it's Tenchi Muyo. I've loved this ever since i first saw it in february 2000, on sci-fi channel in Britian. It really had an impact on my creative life, as you can see be the fact i can remember when i saw it. I loved anime, but this show cemented my love of anime.

And Ryoko is for me, the GREATEST female fictional character (in anime or live action) ever.

Actually, that's a question with infinite answers, as everyone has different tastes.

My candidate is a series that not really much people know in the US, and is the series I'm always talking about.

Yes: Captain Tsubasa.

Great story, original plot, and the cutest guy I've ever seen in anime: Wakabayashi Genzo.

It was my first series, and Misaki from this series was the first anime character I ever drew.

I've watched a whole bunch of progressive anime recently, but I think the two things that made me go "wow" most (in a good way) are FLCL and Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence. That's right, GITS2 had a more profound effect on me than GITS1. Mainly because its art was so incredibly transcendent, which they didn't have the technology to do when GITS1 came out.

It's not my personal favorite, but Neon Genesis: Evangelion may live up to its title as "the #1 anime of all time." It combines all sorts of stock/cliché anime characters and situations into a series that winds up completely different than anything in existance at the time of its release. Serious artwork is supposed to do more than just entertain--it's supposed to make us think about life, the world, and what my hippie literature classes call "the human condition," and NGE succeeds in all of these, even though it spurred such intense reaction for the TV series conclusion.

Beyond that, it's a giant robot show that's not really a giant robot show, but more of an exploration of religion, psychology, and philosophy, all while dishing out plenty of fanservice Smile Sure, there were commercial ties with the robot figures, but figurines of the girls outsold the robots by a long shot. I'm not sure what this proves Neutral

I feel that Akira is a good canidate for best over-all anime with Blue Submarine 6 coming in a close second. They both have an outstanding story line, excellent animation art, and characters that you can identfy with.

Akira is a no win movie with no real heros, in a Tokyo that has lost its culture. There is no strong right and wrongs and nothing is defined in black and white, but we see verying shades of gray. And of course in all of this there is a guy chasing a girl in it too. In a story of a young biker by the name of Tetsuo being experimented on by the Government to understand if there is a corrleation between Tetsuo aura and Akira aura and what when wrong 31 years before when World War III started when Akira evloved into a pure energy matter being.

In contrast to Akria, Blue Submarine 6 has a strong sense of who the Good Guys are in the beginning of the movie in a World War of Human against Man made monsters. This movie has a good start and follows through with a great ending.

Technically Blue Submarine 6 is the first animation that used 2 and 3 dimensional art together in the production. It was succesfull and has created a new medium in which animation can be created in.

These are some of the reason why I feel that Akira and Blue Submarine 6 could possibly become know as all time best anime in the future. I fully recomend seeing both of these movies if you have never seen them.

Well if you ask me, I would say that the Dragonball, DBZ series is the best over-all anime. Though it lacks in the romance department, it makes up for it with all the action and comedy. Especially the action. Some of the fights are really good.

For some reason, your "I'm not sure what this proves" line caused me to burst out laughing. Anime hyper

Although you're entitled to your own opinion, I honestly don't think anyone other than DBZ fans are going to go with you on that. Even Akira (which I don't particularly like) I would be able to somewhat accept as being a good all-around anime. DBZ... just no. It lacks in depth and pretty much is only strong in the action department and not much else. It has some good action scenes but it is far from a well rounded anime.

As for me, I'd have to agree with Zalis and say that NGE is probably the most well liked all around anime. NGE has action, depth, drama, good characters and pretty much stuff most anime fans can appretiate as a whole. It lacks in comedy, but comedy is something that varies greatly depending on the person.

Everybody is entitle to their own opinion as what they consider is the best and they've already done so in this thread. I'm not sure why we need another one.

Actually I think this one's a bit different. Although I like NGE, it definately isn't my favorite anime. This thread is more about one anime that is overall, the most well liked by fans. At least that's what I interpreted it as. The other thread is more about personal favorites. That's why I commented on DBZ, cause it isn't overall well liked by anime fans. The opening post in this thread wasn't particularly that good though, so I can see you not wanting this thread for that reason.
