First of all they have to release the second, which none of us know about. This show is probably going to end up like Berserk, sorry to say, without a second season.

Sorry fighterholic, but if your wrong on this one. First, ADV divided the 26 episodes of Gantz into 2 "seasons", seperate story arc after episode 13. ADV has already released a thinpack for what they call season 1, which is the first 13 episodes.
I too am waiting for an announcement on the 2nd season, episodes 14-26, because I stopped picking up the series after volume 6, the end of the first season. I figure it shouldn't be long before it is announced because Season 1 has been out for over a month and ADV has a tendancy to release every single series in thinpack, so season 2 should be available before the end of the year... but thats an assumption. I picked up Vol. 7 used for $10 a while back but sold it back to Suncoast when I found out that season 1 would be available in a thinpack because it would be a whole lot cheaper to wait for the thinpack box than to buy the other 3 volumes.

Actually, the two "seasons" of GANTZ are considered to be episodes 1-13 and 14-26, so both seasons do exist. It's not a Berserk situation.
In response to the OP's question, ADV seems to release boxed sets of everything these days, so if you wait for it, I'm sure that second season set will come out eventually, though I don't know if it'll have the extras included like the first season did. Comparing some other recent ADV releases:
Chrono Crusade - Hellfire (DVD 7) 2005-08-02
Chrono Crusade - Complete Collection 2005-11-01
D.N.Angel - The Light Breaks (DVD 7) 2005-08-23
D.N.Angel - DVD Complete Collection 2005-12-06
Peacemaker - Prelude to Battle (DVD 6) 2005-07-19
Peacemaker - Complete Collection 2005-11-15
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Platinum Edition (DVD 7) 2005-04-19
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Platinum Complete Collection 2005-11-22
Gantz - Sudden Death (DVD 6) 2005-07-05
Gantz - Season 1 Thinpak 2006-01-17
So, the general timelines seem to be from 3 to 7 months between last DVD and boxed set release. These are all series that have come out in the last year or so, not back catalogue titles like Abenobashi or Super Gals! where the thinpack came along years after the last DVD was released. Based on these trends, I'd expect the season 2 set to be released sometime in May or June.

Gantz had 2 seasons. There are 26 episodes total in the united states atleast. I understand that the second season may not be released elsewhere. That is 13 episodes per season.
I decided to do the OP a favor and do some sniffing. This was the release date for volume 10. January 17, 2006. Thanks to amazon.com. That means all the single second season DVDs have not been out for even two and a half months. By my estimate thats way too early to be looking for a boxset. The first season boxset was released on. February 21, 2006. Thanks to amazon.com. The last first season DVD was released on. July 5, 2005. Thanks to amazon.com. That would mean it took a total of eight months to reach a box form release date. Which on a direct correlation would mean a late september early october release for the second season in box.
That would be a direct relationship. Unfortunately the situation is probabally worse then that. Seeing as season 2 fits into just 4 discs. Whereas season 1 fit in 6 discs. There was obviously more incentive to get it into a box set sooner. First it reduces the hastle for consumers. It serves as a good selling point to get people to buy season 2. Which may not be in box form for a long time. I would also guess by the retail price of $62.99. Once again thanks to amazon.com. That this product is probabally a good seller.
Needless to say in my educated guess. They had ample reason to hurry and put it in a box form to make it easier to consume, but probabally will be in no rush to do it with a 4 dvd season 2. They know you will probabally crack and buy the individuals. So I would venture the guess probabally not till 2007, or the holiday season.
To the OP I hate to say it, but if you have watched season 1 I think they got you where they want you. I personally couldnt wait that long to see the second season. Since in my oppinion it is even stronger then season 1. Anyway its atleast not so bad since you only got like 4 dvds to snatch up. It could always be worse.

Discs 1-5 have 2 episodes each
Disc 6 has 3 episodes
This concludes ADV's R1 releases of the "First Season" that was released with a special price and had a monthly release. I used to pick up each volume for like $12 each at Best Buy and Suncoast... In the end, you end up paying the same price for 4 episodes. $12 for 3 episodes on Disc 6 was the real bargain.
For season 2, they decided to do a more conventional 4-3-3-3 release, but at $29.99 MSRP. Not only that but the releases also whent to a more conventional bi-monthly release. I didn't pick them up because it felt like a rip off paying $23, with taxes, for 3 episodes when I had previously picked up Volume 6 for $12 which also contained 3 episodes.
It's the only 26 episode series I know that is 10 DVD volumes.
I hate typing on my laptop. The numbers seem to be closer together and i keep pressing ; instead of the '. Most of my posts contain words like [can;t] instead of [can't].

I guess $12 is okay, it's better than 3000 yen ($28) for two eps.

I hadn't realized how expensive Japanese releases were until recently that a topic was brought up. If you buy the Japanese release from the USA, you also have to pay for overseas shipping, which I heard isn't cheap because of customs and other charges.

There's this one Japanese series I was thinking of getting, but it costs $150 for five episodes to get it over here if I were to import it from Japan.
