More so than Hayashi's involvement (it's NOTHING like his sci-fi trilogy and it's hard to see his influence), the game's major collaboration was Square Enix and Revo. Understandable that a lot of people don't know Revo, but he's an AMAZING composer/instrument player with a few small bands and one big band. He's the guy behind the group, Sound Horizon, and the music in Bravely Default is like that of SH's music.
When I first heard about the game, I was in Japan, looking around a game store, and I heard what I thought was sound horizon music from a television. That's what inspired me to pick it up while I was there. And it is an AMAZING game, re-glorifying some of the tropes from the old FF games with a new, enticing aesthetic. The presentation of the game is just... powerful. It shows just how a 3D gimmick can actually be valuable and integrate the audience in the world of a game...
