 I just watched the first episode of GT on Friday, and I was appalled. I've seen fansubs the first few episodes of GT , and I was shocked that the Toonami version left out so much of the original. It took at least two episodes of the original to get off the earth, and they managed it in less than 10 minutes. It left out almost all of the goings-on with Goku's family and old gang, reduced several episodes of off-planet story to a short mention, and jumped into the middle of a moderately late story line.
Admittedly, the first few episodes after they left the earth were real stinkers, and a lot of them could have been cut, but this is ridiculous. How many people will never know that the series has been cut to pieces as it has? |

Strange that they would do that with gt and not with dbz,because dbz was around 300 episodes long.Maybe they don't want to play it for as long as dbz was.Strange,though,because dbz is around only 50 episodes.

That's how FUNi gave it to them. They wanted to go "straight to the action." Don't blame CN for it.

The characters in DB talk alot before the battle, but Cartoon Network doesn't have time for the long dialogs. I watched DB on italian television but they didn't cut off peaces, but sometimes it was annoying.

You have to realize when Funimation recieved the episodes, at times they get instructions from japan, much like how sailor moon is, its doubtful the final season of sailor moon will ever be available in the US. Perhaps the Japanese companies thought the becasue our culture is more action oriented they needed to get rid of all the talking episodes and get straight into the story. Besides what do you expect, this is american television. Look at the wonderful things they do to anime. I'm surprised you were shocked about this, it's almost normal practice, besides if you don't like it, call Funimation, email them, tell the how you feel. If you complain but complacently tkae what you get, they will still provide the edited stuff. If enough people reing in and say hey look we don't want this anymore, they have to listen.

It had nothing to do with Toei Animation, and it had nothing to do with Cartoon Network / Toonami... it was completely FUNimation's decision. Their official "reason" for essentially skipping the first 16 episodes was so they could get "right into the action."
The BASIS for this reasoning is pure speculation, though, in reality. We can only assume it's because DBZ continued at such a high-action level, that FUNimation wanted to capitalize on it as quickly as possible, knowing before-hand that DBGT is clearly NOT a fan-favorite show. So, knowing this, they skipped the first 16 episodes (which follow the tradition of the original DB more, with more emphasis on comedy and adventure, rather than fighting) so they could keep their target audience (the younger kids) interested more quickly. They HAVE said they'll go back and do the first 16 episodes... just... once they're done with the entire rest of the series. It's a really stupid decision from our standpoint, but I'm sure it made sense to at least one high-up exec. at the company. We don't have to agree with it, but that's how it is... So if you're going to blame someone, at least put the blame in the right direction  . For once, it's actually FUNimation making the wrong move (geeze, it's like we're in 1995, again! FUNimation and their silly decisions...)

Even though they did skip the first 16 episodes i think in the near future they are going to release them after they show the series a couple of times. I would prefer if they did keep it in its original form but i guess its ok like this.

Yeah, that actually brings up a good question: why did Toei butcher the Dragon Ball franchise by tacking GT (as well as all that ass-awful filler in the Z TV series) to it?

I Think it's stupid seeing as they have Adult Swim. So you'd think they wouldn't be afraid of showing it uncut.
Then again even Adult Swim Anime's were butchered

A "Dragonball" series...any "Dragonball" series...on Adult Swim? Maybe in another dimension (bad joke), but in this dimension? Never. It's a kids' show. Pure and simple.
About the only anime that was ever "butchered" on Adult Swim was "Blue Gender", and the Toonami shows that were put in for filler ("Pilot Candidate", "Outlaw Star", etc.), don't count (IMO). |

Agreed on the "OMG ADULT SWIM'S SHOWS AR BUCHRRD" thing. And really, Blue Gender was FUNimation's screwup, not Cartoon Network's. Also agreed that Dragon Ball on Adult Swim would be a very stupid idea.
Anyway, as far as the DBGT editing thing, I think a few people forget that it was NOT edited for objectionable content. FUNimation and/or Cartoon Network just wanted to appeal to the majority of DBZ's fans (read: ADHD-afflicted twelve year olds) by not showing the non-fighting, plot-driven first story arc until later on. |

You know Nagisa, I think DBZ may in fact INDUCE ADHD in children, then appeals to their new condition, and the perpetual brainwashing-merchandise cycle never ends. As I watched some old DBZ recordings off of Toonami I found that my mind wandered an exponentially higher degree than ever. *This show is stupid-->I'm a little hungry-->I could sure go for a taco and a meximelt-->Why don't they make taco flavored Slurpees?-->Monkeys are funny-->Would a monkey get brainfreeze from a Slurpee?-->That was a big explosion-->Maybe I should keep watching to see if there will be more big explosions....*
