The first time was because the director or someone on staff was sick or something. The big thing with Exodus was that most, if not all of the original staff would be returning.
It's still interesting. Exodus was announced at slightly the same time as the movie came out so...2012 I want to say. Heaven and Earth was a sequel to nearly a decade old show.
I know Fafner's relatively popular and all but man, most shows would be cancelled at this point.

I didn't hear about the part where one of the staff members were ill but I remember reading about the sequel when the movie was released
