Does anyone know why games like this are always made for PCs? How come I can't ever find them for Macs? Just wondering? I'd love to try them out.

I'll just have to be blunt with you, most Japanese developers/programmers are not fans of the mac os. To the reviewer, you pretty much summed up Planetarian quite well. It's a short but sweet visual novel. |

Is there a consumer market for Apple products in Japan? I have no idea, but I wouldn't particularly be surprised if there wasn't. |

I continue to be surprised how many people don't know that this game was previously released in English for iPhone and iPad in 2013, as reported on ANN. Perhaps more surprisingly, that release was by Key / Visual Art's themselves, not through a western intermediary like Sekai Project. I've always wondered if that release represented Key testing the waters of the US market, and their subsequent decision to license out the PC version perhaps indicating that the iOS App Store experiment was not successful for them. A pity, particularly because the text is a lot more readable in the iPad version than those PC screenshots look. |

From what I understand the method to input Japanese text on a Windows computer is very easy. Not sure Mac OS is comparable in this case. Also, computers in Japan are mainly used for work or by computer otaku. (Most internet surfing is done on phones.) So, in the case of computer otaku a Windows machine is more likely because it can be customized much more readily then a Mac can.
It is pretty well known if any app isn't free or lower then 99 cents they don't sell that well. So, even a price point of 3.99 might be a big turn off. I also see it has been placed in the "Books" category. While, I get that. I think most people looking for this would look under games. And most people looking at books are not interested in a product like this. |

One of my favorite short stories. I return to it annually around Thanksgiving break to experience it once again. Thrilled to hear that the Junker's few lines in this version are actually voiced, that will be different to hear. And of course I'm happy to own it on Steam.
As for the review, it was very fair. It's a decade old kinetic novel that was priced at 1000 yen when it came out. Definitely worth the 3-4 hours invested in it and likely some repeat readings after some time.
Windows based PC has a giant market compared with Mac based PC. That's all it really is. iOS however has a rather large market share in mobile so you see a lot more stuff for iOS. Last edited by Megiddo on Tue Oct 07, 2014 7:10 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Great review! I love this game. I'd played it back in 2006 when I got a copy in Japan and used the patch. I admit to crying during some scenes later on. I wish there were more CGs too.
Ill be buying this too, despite owning a physical copy. |

Great review! It's really nice to see more visual novel being reviewed in this site.
I agree that for some people, Kinetic Novel is not a game (and I have no objection about that) because it's basically just a novel with a "playable" presentation. Some people might find this really boring, but the story are really great for me. For some reason, the ending didn't hit me much because I kind of already expected the outcome since... it's made by Key. I actually like the overall presentation of this VN. When I played this first, around two years ago, I was surprised to hear a familiar melody, which is "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", which in Japan is a song about stars called "Hoshi no Yo", which in my country is... something else. Some other BGMs really stuck in my head, like "Gentle Jena" and "Hoshi no Meguri Uta". |

If you use the default fonts (of which you can choose in-game) and have your computer set to Japanese locale, the text display's far clearer than what is shown in the screenshots here and most other places. Also the title according to the official title-style list is supposed to be written like this: "planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~" |

MangaGamer is actually releasing a horror/suspense VN called "Cartagra" (the prequel to Kara no Shoujo) on Mac and Linux. It's not an all-age title and contains adult content. Link |

I remember buying this on Key's site in 2009. Feels so good buying it again on Steam.
